COMPTON HOSPICE BENEFITS FROM BONINGALE GARDEN CREATIONS’ LOCAL EXPERTISE

Compton Hospice can look forward to refreshed gardens after Boningale Garden Creations donated dozens of new plants and pledged its continued horticulture support.

The hospice, in Compton Road West, Wolverhampton, aims to completely overhaul the design of its outside spaces so that companies or individuals can sponsor small or large areas of the gardens.

As well as donating the plants, the Albrighton-based garden design company’s garden maintenance and restoration expert Joanne Jones is also visiting weekly to look after the garden to ensure its upkeep ready for the Spring.

Sue Chance, Head of Fundraising at Compton Hospice, said the partnership between the charity, which provides care for people with life-limiting illnesses, and Boningale Garden Creations, demonstrates how valuable local business support can be.

“The charity has to raise about £6 million every year to provide our services free of charge, so this type of support from Boningale is most welcome because it means that we can divert money to other vital work,” she explained.

“Helping in such a practical way is an enormous help to us. Gardens are really important places because they are places of calm and reflection. They allow our patients and their families to enjoy the outdoor space at any time of the year.”

Earlier this year, the garden design company, which is part of Boningale Nurseries, built a Memories Walkway in the grounds of the hospice, which included more than 300 bricks and granite stones – each of which is sponsored by family and friends and engraved with the name of loved ones who have died.

Andi Way, Design and Customer Liaison at Boningale, said: “Compton Hospice is a charity very close to our hearts and while it would be easy for us to hand over a cheque, we wanted to provide something more tangible.

“Donating our time and materials so that the hospice can benefit from a welcoming outdoor space seemed the obvious way of doing it and we are pleased to provide this ongoing support.

Our longer term aim is to provide defined spaces within the garden, large and small, so that other local companies can get involved and provide their support to the hospice.”
